Kathy Kemp is a passionate lifelong educator who also loves and enjoys the outdoors and adventure. A three-time graduate from Georgia State University, she holds a Bachelor’s degree specializing in Marketing, and earned a Master’s and Specialist degree in Special Education. Her first 10 years teaching, she served as a special education teacher where she worked with a wide range of students, including Learning Disabilities, Autism, Emotional/Behavior, ADD/ADHD, mild-moderate- and profound disabilities. She also served as department head for Special Education where she worked closely with students and parents to provide the most effective education in the least restrictive environment available. As a Marketing teacher, she worked with students in her work-based learning program, working with potential employers to find proper placement for students in the work force. She was also very involved with Community Service, teaching on-line classes, maintaining a school store, and taking students to state and international business competitions. In 2012, she was awarded Marketing Teacher of the Year and Business Education Teacher of the Year, for the state of Georgia. “Teaching is my passion. My success is based on the success of the children I work with. Relationships are key. I feel lucky to have touched so many lives in my education career.”
Recently, Kathy retired and has joined our Aerie team. She is using her knowledge and experience with not only her education background, but her love of the outdoors, and is involved with our adventure camps and is excited to work with families as a Home Specialist. While working with Forsyth County Schools, Kathy was a Home-Based Learning liaison where she worked with students and parents at their homes to ensure the extension of education services when a child was unable to attend school because of medical or emotional concerns. She was instrumental in the communication process between teachers and student. When Kathy is not working, she enjoys hiking, reading, traveling, or anything outside especially if it involves her Golden Retriever Zoey! Her absolute favorite place to be is on the lake or at the ocean. So, if you can’t find her, check there!
